What I’ve been up to as President (Student Experience) (August) – AUB STUDENTS' UNION
taglineheader

HELLO EVERYONE

I can’t believe it’s already my second month on the job! I’ve been having a lot of fun getting to grips with the role, and preparing for FRESHERS!!!

In comparison to my last blog, I have learned a lot about website building, which has partially been the bane of my existence, as my co-workers know… However it is very satisfying when I do get things right. I hope you enjoy this very pretty looking blog 🙂

So far...

We got our faces put on the wall yayyyyy!

Achilles and I are so happy that these posters have been put up, especially as students will be on campus starting next week. University is literally round the corner and I can’t wait to see students back on campus.

I have also been meeting with a bunch of departments within AUB to plan events and campaigns. It has been a lot of fun collaborating with others to bring some exciting things to students!

I can’t say too much yet, but there may be some Red Bull involved…

Another thing I’ve been working together with marketing to curate some student financial profiles which are nearly finished. These are especially important on explaining how new students can effectively budget whilst living in Bournemouth.

Green Team update:

I have been in talks with Scott from Chartwells who has very kindly offered the old herb gardens for the Green Team to use this year!

Our goal is to restore the beds to a good enough standard to grow lots of herbs that the kitchen staff can use in their cooking.

I am also in talks with SUBU to join forces to bring crafty activities as well as proper gardening. Our goal is to make the Green Team popular enough that it will become its own society!

I have big dream, but I am very excited to see if people will enjoy the Green Team.

Sensory room update:

We have had a meeting to establish what the next steps are, and I am very hopeful to collect some student feedback and do my own research as new students come onto campus. I am aware that AUB has a high percentage of neurodiverse students, and I am very passionate about ensuring that everyone at AUBSU feels heard and cared for.

More personally...

Since coming into this job, my life outside of work has been very chaotic with moving out and adjusting to a 9-5 lifestyle. I have recently gotten back into my art and have experimented on shirt bleaching.

This particular shirt was inspired by Moby Dick. Bleaching did bring on a range of obstacles, but it remined me how much I loved making art!

I have also finally started going to the gym again. It feels to good to return back to my hobbies, especially as I now have more time on my hands since settling in.

The future...

As Freshers gets closer and closer, more of my time is being spent on sorting out all of the details and streamlining some of the events I’m leading on. It has been a lot of hard work for everyone in the office and we are very proud of everything we have been able to do this summer.

I know Achilles and I have spent a lot of hours making the Students’ Union Guide look absolutely perfect! I have had a lot of fun with the graphic design side and we are also very thankful for our Freshers’ artist, Scarlett (@starlettisketches) who has designed some very pretty illustrations for us to use!

Beyond Freshers, we have a very exciting opportunity for students to work on the Student Cookbook, which originally came out a few years ago. I am SOSOSO excited to update this and work with students!!!
