WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING?

AUBSU has been looking at how much waste we produce and where it is going. This year, we worked with AUB to ban the blue plastic cups that we used to stock with the water fountains. We estimate that this will save approx 300,000 cups a year, equivalent to 936kg weight of unnecessary single-use plastic. AUB also agreed to fund a half price discount on some sustainable steel bottles, which you can buy from the shop or AUBSU! 

We've also been supporting our beautiful local coastline with beach cleans thoughout the year, with our last clean collecting about 12kg of rubbish! 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

While we have managed to get some coffee cup recycling units on campus, their incorrect use is resulting in the waste becoming contaminated. We want to promote the better use of these to ensure all coffee cup waste is managed efficiently. 

Our sabbs are keen on creating a 'limbo' scheme for course/art materials to reduce waste. They are currently working on this with the University and making progress!
