printing
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING?
AUBSU completed a review of their printing habits to see just how much of their printing is used or wasted and if there is any way to bring the amount of printing down. As a lot of what we do in the SU has to do with advertising things to the students and giving out information we often fall into the trap of printing loads of posters, fliers or handbooks that quite often just end up in the bin. AUBSU is looking to be more careful with its printing by looking for alternative ways to communicate with the students.
To reduce our printing, we have opted for A6 double-sided flyers where printed material is required, switched to online-only training guides and reduced the amount of BUMF copies printed.
We use Palm Print, which has certification from The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. FSC helps take care of forests and the people and wildlife who call them home and is recognised by WWF as the “hallmark of responsible forest management”.
FSC runs a global forest certification system with two key components:
This system allows consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products produced from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials
WHAT'S NEXT?
We're doing pretty well on our printing currently and will continue to monitor and question what we print. We're looking at how we can improve our online and digital promotions to further reduce our need to print.
