Biodiversity
What have we been doing?
For the past 6 years students and staff have taken up their shovels and battled the elements to plant at least 1,000 native trees in various parts of Bournemouth each year. Around 200 volunteers have worked with the Woodland Trust and Upton Country Park to plant the trees which have helped to increase the overall percentage of woodland in Dorset which was originally below the national average.
This year, we held our tree planting event in December with Upton County Park and donated 1300 trees to the local area.
What's next?
We don't plan on stopping the tree planting any time soon! Keep an eye out around November 2020 for our next event (though this will depend on goverment advice on events and social distancing.)
We've also been working on a proposal to increase the green spaces on our campus, starting with a wellbeing garden. This project has now been approved and we're in the planning stages. We hope this project will see students getting their hands dirty and their fingers green to create natural habitats for native animals and green areas across the campus.
