Healthcare 101: GP Registration & Sexual Health

Sorting your healthcare might not be the most exciting part of uni life — but it’s one of the most important. Whether it’s getting a check-up, sorting prescriptions, or finding sexual health support, here’s where to start.

Register with a GP

If you haven’t yet, register with a local GP as soon as possible. AUB recommends The Village Surgery, which offers student-friendly appointments, mental health support, and social prescribing links to community wellbeing activities.

Free & Discounted Healthcare

If you’re on a low income, you might qualify for the NHS Low Income Scheme — it can cover prescriptions, dental and eye care costs.

    Sexual Health

Sexual Health Dorset offers free and confidential services for everyone, including contraception, STI testing and HIV support. The Over the Rainbow clinic in Bournemouth is LGBTQ+ inclusive and friendly.

    On-Campus Wellbeing Perks

Don’t forget the little wins: alternative milks are free in AUB cafés, reusable cups save you 30p per drink, and “Free Fruit Fridays” make healthy choices a bit easier.

On the Cost of Living page there is a student cookbook which includes budget-friendly balanced meals.
