Happy first few weeks of UNI! I’m so glad to see everyone back on campus and get into the swing of the new year. Here’s everything I’ve been up to this September!
Freshers’!
Freshers’ Week was a busy one! From helping get everything ready behind the scenes to running welcome stalls, organising activities and helping bring our Freshers plans to life, it’s been so lovely welcoming new and returning students to AUB. We packed the week with opportunities to meet new people and it was a lovely way to kick off the year and welcome everyone into the AUBSU community!
Governing!
September marked the start of many of AUB’s committee meetings! I attended a safeguarding meeting to stay informed on student safety and wellbeing, and ran my first Trustee Board meeting as President. It’s been a great opportunity to get more involved in the wider running of the Students’ Union and make sure student voices are represented in important conversations and decisions.
Open calls!
One of my main focuses this month has been getting student artist opportunities off the ground! I’ve been working with Lily on an external exhibition, alongside developing a few other ways for students to get their work seen around AUB. There’s lots in the works at the moment, and I can’t wait to share more details soon!
Outside of AUBSU!
Outside of SU life, I’ve been trying to squeeze in as much drawing as possible to keep my illustration skills alive and remind myself that I did, in fact, go to art school! I also built a desk, which was a pretty big achievement for me (I know, try not to be too impressed). Besides all that most of my life this month revolved around Freshers- planning activities to sorting out social media and making sure everything was ready to go, it was pretty much all I thought about, day and night. Eat, sleep, Freshers, repeat. Now that it’s all wrapped up, I’m looking forward to getting back into a bit more drawing and finding some time for myself outside of the SU office.
